Pros

Good to work for in terms of the economy/job stabilty

Cons

I have never had worse physical and mental health than when working at Lidl. My relationships suffered because I was constantly working +50 hour weeks with no breaks and did not have mental capacity for even conversation in the evenings. Concerns for the team were flagged with executives and we were constantly told just to ‘work smarter’ when we were expected to do enough work to cover 3 jobs. Very unfair. I am used to high pressure roles and being a high performer but it was too much. Turnover and growth are prioritised over employee health and well-being. The level of egotism and ‘what I say goes’ was unreasonable and harmful to morale and employee health. If you value mental health and work life balance please reconsider or be very certain to question this in your interview to get an idea of the team’s culture you might be joining. Not all smiles and happy go lucky.
