Pros

So much opportunity to make a difference! Literally anyone in any part of the organization can make a game-changing impact. If you have a good idea, you can see it happen. Very gratifying.

Cons

Lumanu could’ve been so great… but most of leadership is catastrophically ransacking the culture of any redeeming qualities. - Extremely condescending leadership. - Little managerial accountability. - C-suite won’t hesitate to throw each other under the bus, publicly. - CEO is nice and well-intentioned, but has Shiny Object Syndrome. You’ll work 70 hours trying to keep up with The Next Big Idea. - Leadership will absolutely, with no remorse, request evening, weekend, and holiday work from you. No additional comp. I was called on my birthday PTO for non-urgent work. - The Engineering team is spread so thin they do careless work. High failure rates on the product, so good luck if you are client facing at all. - Bare bones benefits. Not conducive to supporting a family.

Pros

Being a part of Lumanu has been a great learning experience with hard working and smart co-workers. There is a lot of unexplored territory in the space that presents as lot of interesting challenges to solve. When joining a remote engineering team there is always a concern of missed learning opportunities you get with in-person teams, but I haven't ran into that issue here. There is a great culture around helping and challenging one another to grow as an engineer. Pair programming is encouraged and code reviews are treated as learning opportunities. The more senior engineers are always happy to share knowledge and employees are encouraged to challenge existing solutions to improve our codebase.

Cons

With a startup, sometimes time constraints require cutting corners and the ideal solution has to be sidelined for the good enough solution. However, there is a conscious and directed effort to pay off accumulated technical debt alongside building new features.
