Pros

So much opportunity to make a difference! Literally anyone in any part of the organization can make a game-changing impact. If you have a good idea, you can see it happen. Very gratifying.

Cons

Lumanu could’ve been so great… but most of leadership is catastrophically ransacking the culture of any redeeming qualities. - Extremely condescending leadership. - Little managerial accountability. - C-suite won’t hesitate to throw each other under the bus, publicly. - CEO is nice and well-intentioned, but has Shiny Object Syndrome. You’ll work 70 hours trying to keep up with The Next Big Idea. - Leadership will absolutely, with no remorse, request evening, weekend, and holiday work from you. No additional comp. I was called on my birthday PTO for non-urgent work. - The Engineering team is spread so thin they do careless work. High failure rates on the product, so good luck if you are client facing at all. - Bare bones benefits. Not conducive to supporting a family.

Pros

The people that work here are the reason I love Lumanu. Lumanu does an exceptional job at hiring hard-working, kind, intelligent people. Whenever I have a personal matter I have to take care of, my coworkers are understanding and happy to cover for me. It's amazing that they've sustained this strong of a company culture as a remote company. The company is passionate about learning and encourages you to do so. There's tons of room to grow professionally and potential for upward mobility. Transparency from leadership gives you insight into the big picture. It's interesting to hear where the company is headed, and feel like you're part of the reason the company is successful. Also, we are all encouraged to speak up and challenge decisions. It doesn't feel like there's a company hierarchy - it feels as though we all have a say and have contributed to create the company Lumanu is today. Unlimited PTO!

Cons

We are encouraged to work during off hours or do research/etc. in our free time. During peer reviews, this was one of the factors listed in a category we were rated on and I believe is a mindset we need to change. As a start up, mostly manual processes are used and pay could be better for the work expected. We implement TONS of processes, which don't always do what they're intended to. Sometimes I feel like the processes just add on extra tasks, rather than provide value

Pros

At the time of this writing, I have only been a part of Lumanu for over a month. This is my first full-time job out of college, and I can honestly say that I am blessed with luck to have discovered such a gem of a company. Here's why: The Product The product Lumanu is developing is very exciting and has a lot of potentials to succeed big time in the creator economy. Working on a product that I believe in makes me more excited to contribute and voice my ideas for new features. The Leadership Tony, our CEO, has essential leadership qualities. He has the experiences of working at various companies in various positions to inform his decision-making. He takes great care in creating a culture at Lumanu where any team members can speak up and have their voice be heard. He takes everyone's feedback seriously, and this is a mark of great leadership. Great leadership is not a dictatorship model; great leadership is surrounding yourself with capable people whose opinions enhance your own decision-making. Most importantly, Tony really does care about everyone's individual growth, and it shows. He implements a weekly one-on-one system where people meet up with their supervisors and get/provide feedback. Any smart leader knows that the growth of their company directly corresponds to the growth of their employees. The Team I love everyone I've met so far at Lumanu. Everyone is nice, capable, motivated, and willing to cooperate as a team. It is a joy every day to work with everyone here. As the most inexperienced person on the team, I've gotten a ton of help from everyone. I ask countless questions, and there is always someone who is there to provide me the answer. The Work-Life Balance This is one of the most important aspects I look for in a job, more so than salary. At Lumanu, there is unlimited PTO, and you are encouraged to take time-offs to take care of your life responsibility outside of work. If you're smart, you know that more work hours don't necessarily correlate to more productivity. It is efficient work hours that drive productivity, and for people to be efficient, it is crucial that they maintain a balance in their life. They need time at work, time away from work to care for their hobbies, their family, their responsibility, their well-being. This will ensure that people are healthy and productive in the time that they do spend at work. The Job I love my job. I get to learn a ton about Clojure, dabble in the paradigm of functional programming, and work on practical features for an app that gets used by actual content creators/influencers. The job is never stressful, and a lot of time, it is very fun, especially when I get to pair with other engineers. Tl;dr I rate this company 5/5. If you get in, you won't regret the experience. Not a lot of people get a chance to work at a young company whose culture is this awesome.

Cons

The different time zones of our remote team make it hard for some of us to sync up and play video games together :(
