Pros
My immediate team was great, including my manager and teammates. Benefits were average.
Cons
It was a tough run for me at Lumen. It's a hyper completive market. Lumen installs take longer and are more expensive than the competition. The fiber footprint was limited and though they are working on new fiber, it creates a challenge. If multiple providers have fiber at a location, it's a going to be a tough sale. I spent way too much time on installs and issues, along with trying to navigate antiquated systems, which meant less time for sales. Ramp up was painful. There are too many legacy platforms which take months to learn. Training was limited and you were expected to team with a veteran rep to help you - translation, give them 50% of your sales to help you - translation, you are paying for your training. I would also discover new tools six months in that no one even told me about, a "you don't know what you don't know" kind of thing. Lumen is trying too hard to be a security and Digital Transformation company. Lumen provides internet, and that it does well, but no one is using Black Lotus labs for anything serious and everyone offers burstable internet, and usually cheaper. Many prospects have been burned by Lumen companies in the past and wouldn't even have a conversation with me. In mid markets, almost every account is fair game. There's a lot of scamming going on - people trying to change the name on accounts to sell into your territory. Management is often not helpful in fixing. Base pay is very low in mid markets. This was my experience, and many had the same experience. There are some reps that seem to make their number every month, year after year, but they've had years to learn and navigate the systems quickly.
