Challenging, overworked, lack of real leadership - Engineer Lynch Mykins Structural Engineers Employee Review

Pros

You will learn so much here. There isn't much training so you are pretty much on your own but there are some experienced people you can ask questions to if they have time to answer you. Great for short term if you need to advance your career or skills quickly, just know you will be stressed out the entire time. Tons of historical project examples to study and learn about if you put in the effort. They win the cooler projects.

Cons

lack of actual leadership. No workload future projection that I saw in action, no future planning to make sure the workload and the employees abilities make sense. They will try to just talk you into doing more than you can anytime you bring up concerns about workload. A lot of drama too. People leave and it gets really weird and leadership will meet with everyone individually to "chat" instead of just notifying people. Reminds me of a weird cult. They say they appreciate you, but they just let you keep overworking yourself to get projects out the door and don't pay you overtime or give you good enough of a bonus to make the extra hours worth it, until you try to quit and then they throw everything at you to keep you.

Pros

From my first conversation with Lynch Mykins I felt completely 100% welcomed into the company. The focus on culture at Lynch Mykins is second to none. Every employee there wants to be a part of their coworkers lives in some way. The people you work with here care about you, period. The work balance is second to none as well. There is zero overworking. Management understands that work life balance is of the highest importance and will make sure to do everything in their power to keep that a healthy balance. Speaking of management, the way the company is structured is like nothing else. There is collaboration between every employee, and there are no "direct reports", you can go to anyone, with any question, at any time. I don't know if there's another company this size that has the ability to do that. This is the best structural firm to work at, end of story.

Cons

Pros

Flexible work life balance, decent people, overall ok workplace. Compensation was ok but not keeping up with current market pay trends in the field.

Cons

Hectic, understaffed, lots of turnover, not quite the family employee environment that is being sold through social media. Alcohol use during work hours is odd, encouraged, and excessive. Little if any real structure for advancement. Raises minimal and you definitely have to fight for them.
