Pros
The best thing about this job is the flexibility. I can work as much or as little as I want as I am in control of how much money I make as we are paid per patient. As a nurse practitioner, most of the time the jobs are in a hospital or an office which can mean you're working long hours. I love being able to make my own schedule. Also, compared to other NP jobs, the pay is much better. I make almost double what I made in my previous job. I have complete autonomy with my patients but always have someone to ask questions to if needed. There is a lot of support from management if you need it.
Cons
You have to be comfortable going into people's homes. You also have to be efficient and be able to time manage. You are responsible for your patients from Monday-Friday during business hours and if you're not keeping up with your calls and messages it can get overwhelming. Some people complain that there are a lot of meetings and other things that need to be done outside of visits which are unpaid, however I believe that we are compensated for each visit very fairly and this makes up for the time we spend unpaid outside of the visit. The benefits package is not very good (health insurance, 401k).
