Pros

MacKay has been providing CEO support for 20 years. The company has an exceptional reputation in the marketplace. Their peer support process has been fine tuned and consistently gains top marks from CEO clients. Newcomers can expect lots of support and I found everyone in the company extremely helpful and supportive for new Forum Chairs.

Cons

Recruiting new members takes more time & effort that most people realize. You need to follow the process and allocate the time. It's easiest if you have an existing network of CEOs as clients (eg executive advisors/coaches), and harder if you do not have these close connections. But not impossible - see time above.

Pros

If you have not done business development for some time, prepare to hit warp speed.

Cons

It all comes down to money. Reviews here go into great detail, but it really comes down to the owners greedy intentions. Populating the world with better leaders is a bumper sticker used to attract Chairs with networks who can then cross sell her services. You are nothing short of a recruiter/sales person, paid entirely on commission. Dress is up how you like, but that is what the role requires of you. Make calls, get names, ask for referrals, build a group. Chances of even launching this group after 3 months of hard BD are slim. I've seen to many Chairs who are welcomed with high praise "step down for personal reasons" before their groups launch. They are indeed terminated, and the rest of us carve up their leads list and pursue them aggressively. This will damage your professional reputation. You are asking CEO's for a commitment to you, yet you lack all control over the outcome you hope to achieve, unless you bring 12 CEO's to a table in 90 days paying 10K each in advance of all their sessions. Be warned fellow consultants.
