While there are some great people here, there are many more who are vindictive and incompetent. Departments within the company are territorial and some are intentionally adversarial to others. MH is stuck in their former glory as a publisher, with many old hats refusing to grow. They want to believe that they're a tech company, but leadership refuses to support the organizational change that needs to take place for that to happen. It's highly dysfunctional, and those that are trying to build a technology product have no clue what they're doing. Compensation in terms of pay is ridiculously low and annual merit increases are a joke. You can be consistently outstanding in your role and you'll get a nominal increase in pay. I remember being told that a 1.5% raise was generous because there wasn't a big budget for raises. This was while I was exceeding expectations and bringing forward new business opportunities, and there were people in my org who were doing nothing (inventing quiet quitting) and gaining a 1.25% raise. Promotions are the same way, they are reluctant to promote people who deserve it, and when they do, they often make up a new title so they don't have to promote the person into a higher pay grade. What's funny, is when people submit their resignation, all of sudden there's a position open and what do you know, there is room in the budget for a raise. If you have any issues with how they're operating, you'll be gaslit by both management and Culture & Talent (their HR dept). HR is NOT there to help or serve employees, they're there to protect MH and be a mouthpiece for leadership. Again, another funny joke, because "leadership" is something they lack. The C-suite is out of touch. The president of my BU used to play music and dance in the chair at the start of every townhall, trying to be relatable and cool. Super cringey. He only supported what the sales team asked for, regardless of what user data showed him. All in all, I would not recommend McGraw Hill to anyone, it's not a healthy place to work. If you're currently there, polish up your resume and get out, it's much better in the real world where opportunities await.
