Pros

Many opportunities to learn and grow within the non profit space. Great job for learning the ropes and getting involved in a lot of different aspects of advocacy and patient engagement. Main boss isn't always in the office and when he is, he's usually busy or managing interns (seems to be his favorite thing, shaping young minds to look beyond what they've been taught in books/classroom). The other boss is always around. I felt comfortable talking to her and addressing any concerns I had. She took my ideas into consideration and had me sit in on meetings and gave me a role to play. Sometimes I felt more was expected than I could handle, but I was able to talk it out with them. Although this isn't where I see myself staying in the long run, it was a great experience. Flexibility in the schedule (sometimes we left early when the weather was nice, or bad weather was expected, or if it was a long week) and good vacation policy (after 1 year, 2 weeks vacation AND over Christmas they close the office for 2 weeks).

Cons

Some staff members/interns who aren't as interested in the topics addressed can spoil things for others with negative attitudes. Don't assume that every staff understands the details that are in your head about previous projects. Sometimes more explanation is needed to grasp the history of the programs/company before attending a meeting or event.
