Pros

Supportive management, great sense of belonging, cheap health benefits compered to other hospitals if you stay with Methodist providers.

Cons

Frequent cancelling at times of low census making you use your vacation time. Employer does not offer free short term disability. Health benefits are valued on your health risk factors, the more you have the more expensive. If you don't use Methodist providers, you end up paying hefty out pocket expenses. Chiropractor is not covered, despite knowing that most nurses have chronic back problems.

Pros

Coming from a smaller size hospital but big company like Methodist and known high paying hospital in DFW, I needed more shifts. Since MDMC is bigger than my other PRN, I have higher chance of getting shifts because there are more monitoring stations, more staff taking PTOs, higher chance of staff calling out sick and therefore opening the shift, etc.

Cons

More workload and higher census! Almost 50 patients on heart monitor per station.

We're glad to hear that the flexibility and availability of shifts have been a benefit for you. As one of the region's largest health systems, Methodist offers opportunities that can help PRN team members find the schedule that works best for them. We also recognize that higher patient volumes and workload expectations can come with working in a busy, high-acuity environment. Supporting our team members remains a priority, and we continually evaluate our compensation programs and workplace resources to remain competitive and help our employees succeed. Thank you for the important role you play in caring for our patients and for being a valued member of the Methodist family.
