Pros

I feel fortunate in that I was able to make the best of my time at Microbiologics. I lasted through a variety of situations there which were far less than ideal, which made getting the most out of it difficult. Some of the pros for me included: 1. A number of really nice and decent colleagues that worked hard and did good things! 2. Interesting career opportunities for those who know where to look for them. 3. The company makes interesting products. 4. The ability to learn about and observe business functions that I did not work directly in. 5. The fact that it's a small organization so you can end up doing a lot of things that you may not be able to do in a large organization.

Cons

Now, for the reasons why I left: 1. Pay is not that competitive. I can only speak for my role, but it was average at best for me. I do not feel that my role was titled appropriately, either. 2. Internal culture was pretty unhealthy. If one bad apple spoils the bunch, what do multiple bad apples do? Honestly, I lost count at the number of times I left a meeting room where at least one other person looked to be on the verge of tears by the time it was over. The bulk of corporate culture trainings were just lip service in my opinion. I can third the review that states people worried about getting randomly fired here. 3. While interesting, those career opportunities were few and far between. In certain situations, I was pitted against my colleagues and it felt like I was expected to throw them under the bus to get ahead. The scarcity model is in full effect here. 4. The benefits were less satisfying than average, especially the time off policy and health care coverage options. Multiple colleagues as well as myself had to keep working through severe illnesses because of the demands placed on rank and file employees as well as the lack of adequate time off. 5. Top heavy organization with too many people managing others who shouldn't be doing that. 6. Embarrassing lack of scientific expertise coming from people who should be doing that. 7. No concrete direction for one's career or continued development. I think this company could retain their employees if they spent the bare minimum listening to their concerns and actually doing something about them. 8. The contributions of my department at large to aid the company's growth went virtually unacknowledged by our leadership. Ultimately, we became used to constant disappointment in return for our hard work. My advice for anyone looking for a job here would be to look elsewhere, but if you must, then take it for what it is. It was a good learning experience for me in a number of ways, chiefly in what I will or will not tolerate in a working environment. This company can be a good place to get experience and then get out. However, Microbiologics tends to promote inappropriate people into increasingly advanced leadership roles, so if you don't want to leave you'll probably be somewhere halfway decent in a number of years even if you have no relevant experience or education!

Pros

The importance of a good work-life balance is often mentioned in all levels of the company. There's flexibility when life happens and they truly care about your wellbeing and not just the business. The culture is something that I've always loved, you can tell the genuine care that everyone has for each other, not only in the business day to day, but in helping each other solve problems and the care for each other personally as well. There always seems to be something new to work on, and that's another thing that has been great about working here, the diversity in the work keeps it exciting and interesting everyday. I am recognized by peers/managers when I work hard, I feel noticed and important. This is what keeps me motivated to stay with the company.

Cons

I think the PTO offering upon initial hiring is low. Compensation is on the lower side but is worth it because of the other offered benefits.
