Pros

Before Bateman I was working in-house at big companies and startups doing marketing and PR. I've worked with some of the smartest people in the biz (i.e. Apple) and I can honestly say this is one of the best workplaces hands down. Offices - Great space, lots of natural light, glass walls, near food trucks. Id give it a B Management - Talented folks who genuinely care about their employees and work hard to make it better. The company is extremely transparent with financials and the state of the business. If you ever feel like you have a problem there is always someone you can talk to. The CEO, Fred Bateman, is a closer and full of energy. He cares about his business and it reflects in the organization he's built. Work - Hard, but rewarding. Bateman works with the best so be prepared for a high bar. The clients are leaders in their respective industries so youre never in a position where you have to fabricate news. I'd compare the hours youll put in to a tech startup. Culture - No question the best thing about Bateman is the people to your left and right. Everyone is driven and passionate about the work they do. Happy hours, catered lunches, trainings, and offsites keep it real. Everyone likes working with one another and genuinely cares. Recognition - this is my favorite thing and the last bit I'll say. I've worked for so many companies where you feel unapreciated. Bateman makes a habit of calling out wins regularly during all hands meetings and to clients. I have never felt more appreciated than when I worked here.

Cons

The billable hours forecasted for you each month are inaccurate. It means you end up working more than you should. The higher up on the totem pole, the worse it gets. Its not just a problem with Bateman but all PR agencies. As a former director I would honestly say this is the biggest con and if you are coming from in-house you have been warned!

Mission North Response

Sorry for letting so much time elapse before responding and thanking you for such a well-written, thoughtful and balanced review of your time at Bateman Group. Selectivity in all things - especially in hiring and with new business - is so critical to the brand and a lot easier said than done. We don't make the right decision every time, but most of the time we do. Its all about coming at it with an abundance mindset as opposed to a scarcity one, don't you think?

Pros

I was at MN for five years and learned a lot about corporate comms! They certainly train and invest in early career employees.

Cons

Unrealistic workload, no work-life balance. Management wants you to post in a thousand little Slack boards instead of doing your work.

Pros

They pay you very well to keep you quiet.

Cons

False transparency. Superficial culture. HR is there to protect the business, not the employees. They check the boxes great for inclusivity, but it's all superficial. Every employee survey even shows that LGBTQIA+ and those with disabilities don't feel seen or heard despite having ERGs. They don't promote on quality of skills or performance, they only care about soft skills and how others see you. If you're not willing to play the game, you probably should work somewhere else. It's 100% politics after they pushed out their former partner.
