Even though I was excited to join Missionwell and the mission that's stated on their website, I was quickly discouraged within my first few weeks there. I found that the team didn't have seasoned accountants. There was one experienced Controller type person. Everyone else like a strong bookkeeper who was following task orders.
The founder is frequently very moody, controlling, and condescending. She forgets about commitments she makes and then unfairly blames other people. She comes across as a kind person but speaks behind people's back. I didn't get to experience it too much because I didn't stay long, but I saw how she would get negative information from one employee about another regularly. The passive aggressive culture of the leadership is stifling and suffocating.
The office is in an old apartment building that's had its walls knocked out to create a make shift open office space. The stairs are rickety and dangerous, so be careful when you're walking up or down those stairs for an interview. Parking is first come/first serve for like the first 5 people. The other 10 employees need to find parking wherever they can on the streets.
I still keep in touch with a couple of people there and found out that the entire team of HR consultants left the company almost all at once. That can't be a good sign.
The benefits are somewhat laughable. The health insurance is below average for what's being offered out there by others. The pay is average I'd say. But that's about where the perks stop.
