Pros

The pay for engineering is generous, ($200k+ for senior engineering) though without bonuses. You won't get a raise or promotion, so you better like the pay you're brought on at.

Cons

2023 was considered a year where objectives mattered, and financial goals had to be met. Company wide status updates started off on a weekly, then bi-weekly, then monthly basis. Pay was frozen, promotions canceled, and stock options became worthless. A few rounds of layoff later, and eventually management went dark in September only to wake back up in January. At that point 1/2 of engineering was let go, and an announcement was made that the company would pivot to AI (without engineers). If the whole company is based on getting real human feedback, why would you pollute that signal with AI hallucinations? The system is broken and management is simply attaching buzzwords wherever possible. Run away, as the company is in headcount freefall, and if you get brought on, most likely you'll be part of the next layoff.

Pros

Morning Consult is the first place that I have worked that genuinely allows staff members from the most junior levels on up to be truly innovative and help shape the direction of the company. This is easy to say this, so let me give a couple of examples: 1.) We have a stack of AI Skills that we leverage at every stage of the research process. These skills are proposed and built by all levels from Associate on up, and then vetted for effectiveness by more senior members 2.) Our Category Advantage offer was built off of thought leadership spanning levels from our most senior level Solution Architects to the Associates that execute on individual projects The other thing I would say that is a huge pro at MC is transparency and visibility. Employees often say that they want more connection with their CEO. At MC, we have a monthly All Hands where the entire staff hears from Mike (our CEO) on vision and financials. If you are part of an initiative, there is a very good chance Mike is as well.

Cons

Like many other startup type companies, change can happen often, and roles and responsibilities will shift accordingly. It is important to go in eyes wide open that this can happen. The positive, professional growth generally comes out of sometimes stressful in the moment change.

Pros

Smart Colleagues: The absolute best part of the job is the individual contributors. You get to work alongside incredibly smart, talented, and driven people on the ground floor. Solid Benefits: The overall benefits package is competitive and well-structured. Office Perks & Lunch: The office environment is excellent, featuring great perks, a nice setup, and provided lunches that definitely made the daily routine better.

Cons

Leadership Needs Accountability; Toxic "Frat" Culture. If you like being screamed at and belittled then you might succeed. Juvenile Culture: Despite the professional perks, the actual workplace dynamic heavily mimics a "frat boy" environment. If you aren't part of the insular, favored social clique, your upward mobility is severely limited, regardless of your performance, data, or output. Poor Leadership: Management consistently lacks the maturity and strategic vision required to lead a modern enterprise. Decisions feel reactive, transparent communication is virtually non-existent, and leadership seems far more interested in self-preservation and internal politics than supporting their teams. Insults from senior leadership don’t serve as motivation. High Burnout & Turnover: Because leadership fails to look past their favored circles to support the wider team effectively, turnover is high. The burden invariably falls on the remaining staff, leaving people burnt out despite the nice office amenities.
