Pros

High base pay and FTO were the only good things about this job

Cons

Morning Consult is a joke and honestly, I hope it fails. You'll be lured in by promises during your interviews and then the job will be nothing like what was sold to you. You'll be micromanaged, ignored, and then eventually, laid off. The People Team is a clique of former coworkers who only look out for each other, do not take complaints seriously, and are easily the worst group of "leaders" I've ever interacted with. I'm convinced that no one at the top has any idea what they are doing, or how to effectively prioritize/communicate work downward. This could be solved if anyone cared about improving themselves, as opposed to just "getting by." They recently hired a CFO, so chances are, MC is going to get sold to the highest bidder in a year or so, and the world will be a better place for it.

Pros

The pay for engineering is generous, ($200k+ for senior engineering) though without bonuses. You won't get a raise or promotion, so you better like the pay you're brought on at.

Cons

2023 was considered a year where objectives mattered, and financial goals had to be met. Company wide status updates started off on a weekly, then bi-weekly, then monthly basis. Pay was frozen, promotions canceled, and stock options became worthless. A few rounds of layoff later, and eventually management went dark in September only to wake back up in January. At that point 1/2 of engineering was let go, and an announcement was made that the company would pivot to AI (without engineers). If the whole company is based on getting real human feedback, why would you pollute that signal with AI hallucinations? The system is broken and management is simply attaching buzzwords wherever possible. Run away, as the company is in headcount freefall, and if you get brought on, most likely you'll be part of the next layoff.

Pros

Unlimited PTO, remote work flexibility.

Cons

Since starting with the company ~2 yrs ago it has felt like early promise has been squandered. Leadership does not understand that employee wellbeing and advancement is a key component to growth. In the face of potential economic downturn, nearly half of the data operations division - the division directly responsible for generating the custom research they sell - was liquidated. When downturn didn't materialize, those of us left behind dealt with monthly crunch and continual personnel churn. Despite two years of long hours and high-value work, many employees have seen zero movement on compensation during record inflation. Review cycles are a moving target. In two years no two review cycles have been the same, and when promotions fail to materialize the only substantive feedback is "employees need to go above and beyond". Constant management shakeups and a remote environment means that supervisors often have little insight on the work and improvement of their direct reports. Unsurprisingly, this has led to mass departure and increased the load on remaining employees.
