Pros

Flexible hours, reasonably interesting work.

Cons

This describes my experiences in SPG(Secure Products Group) (or SDC) the name changes monthly. As do what projects you're working on, and who's managing them. At most times it felt like management was actively trying to keep you from doing work. I recall at one point I requested an extra monitor(most devs use a 19" non wide screen monitor, and there are still people who use CRTs) which would have cost at most $300. Management denied this request because they thought they would have to get monitors for everyone else on the team too(about 20 people). This pretty much summarizes how inept management is. A $300 expense for someone at a $70K salary means that to justify the cost the would have to become 0.4% more efficient over 1 year to justify the cost. In the span of about one year about 5 senior software engineers left. I think more would leave but there aren't a whole lot of embedded SW jobs around in the area and people have families.

Pros

I highly value the autonomy I am given to manage my own workload, and I thoroughly enjoy collaborating with several of my talented colleagues.

Cons

That independence comes at a cost. The company is incredibly disorganized and siloed. Management will force lateral moves on you without asking; I've ended up balancing four different roles with absolutely no pay increase. Requests for fair compensation compared to the peers I trained were completely ignored. Territories change constantly, but zero training is provided. You are essentially left entirely on your own to figure it out.
