Pros

1. Most of the engineers are really talented at what they do. They have the domain expertise and are very helpful. 2. Relaxed work culture. There are times when everybody clocks 55-60hr weeks, but most of the time it's a 9-5 job. Plenty of time to pursue other interests. 3. Looks good on resume. Is the market leader in the segment by a very comfortable margin. 4. You learn a LOT in your initial years. Your profile is what you make of your job (although not everybody is so lucky)

Cons

1. Low pay for the cost of living in chicago area. Hikes are minimal, even unnoticeable. 2. If you talk a lot in meetings, very often the managers think you are the guru because they aren't technically sound and these talkers get promoted first. 3. Some teams tend to do a lot of micro management. Everything needs to be approved by the seniors.

Pros

I highly value the autonomy I am given to manage my own workload, and I thoroughly enjoy collaborating with several of my talented colleagues.

Cons

That independence comes at a cost. The company is incredibly disorganized and siloed. Management will force lateral moves on you without asking; I've ended up balancing four different roles with absolutely no pay increase. Requests for fair compensation compared to the peers I trained were completely ignored. Territories change constantly, but zero training is provided. You are essentially left entirely on your own to figure it out.
