It's rewarding to know you're supporting teachers, and benefits have historically been generous (leave of all sorts, health insurance, flexible schedules in summer, retirement plan)
Cons
Managerial and inter-departmental communication have almost disappeared, making it hard to anticipate likely member issues with technology or policy changes. Apologizing for one's organization is not exactly fun...
