I worked for Naturalists at Large on and off for 5 years. If you are interested in seasonal outdoor education work, they are a great option! Consistent work with opportunity to grow into leadership positions (Naturalist to Program Coordinator, Island/River Manager). Great way to see some of the most beautiful places in California. Pay is W2 based and the day rate is above industry average.
Cons
Weekend housing is not always provided, which can be stressful at times.

Pros
You get to form quick social bonds with your coworkers. There is a real sense of community. Very flexible workplace with the ability to build your schedule. Group sizes are often manageable and the presence of a teacher can be very helpful (though sometimes isn't). You get to experience cool places and learn a LOT about yourself.
Cons
Constantly changing management (you work for different coordinators each week) can mean changing expectations! Insular community can be tricky, especially when working with very independent-minded people. Days are long and schedules can change quickly.
