Pros
- Co-workers are usually very bright and easy to work with.
- Individual offices.
- Factually, nothing else.
Cons
Honestly, almost everything else. As mentioned in the tagline, it's an okay place for a career pit-stop, but nothing more. Plan on looking for other work if you need to work here.
Management is non-existent. The phrase "document it" always comes up, but there is no formal system for holding knowledge. If you choose to embark on this fruitless endeavor there will be constant nit-picking just so that the document can be ignored next week. No one knows how the software works because it has been patched and made to "just work" so many times that any shred of organization of the code base is long gone.
There is minimal product vision. No plan for rolling out to customers. No plan for support. Basically anything that you would expect a real tech company to do will not happen. Any attempts to point this out or help rectify this will be met with hostility and belittlement. (Spoken from experience)
The company does not invest in itself to advance the technology. Advancements are only made by those who volunteer their own time or by necessity for the next pay day. (Securing an SBIR contract)
Spirits will be broken, reality will be warped, and nothing will change. Best not to stay long.
