Pros

the merchandise discount is awesome, but that doesn't mean one can actually afford to shop there while working. it takes a lot to be successful here

Cons

In order to make a pyacheck you have to sell bc nordstrom is a full comisison environment and working in a clothing department you make a meager 6.75% off your sales. do the math- that's a lot you have to sell in order to support yourself. every dept has its sharks, who have worked there for years and who will take every single customer who steps onto the floor. Also, they promote form within- understandable, but in order to get anywhere aka an asst you ahve to sell your way up,a nd as i said it's hard. so if you have managed before and have great leadership skills- tooo bad bc unless you are a selling shark they will not even consider you, which is really unfortunate because being a good seller and being a good manager are 2 totally different things. and to be honest, selling gets old easily..

Pros

Good commissions, good teamwork overall.

Cons

Lots of physical work, putting back the shoes is challenging. Sometimes my coworkers would be too competitive.

Pros

Decent base pay, somewhat autonomous, great tip potential.

Cons

The company has changed for the worse since COVID. When I came back the mood of the entire store had shifted. Gone were the days of comradery, customer focus, and taking pride in a job well done. In its place there is a new culture of cutthroat sales, a severe decline in customer focus, and worst of all a new focus on profit over customer satisfaction. When I was told that the amount the store charged for a shoe shine was not enough to do the best job I could for a customer I knew things had gone downhill for the company. Not to mention I watch a manager prey on a mentally disabled person in order to secure a sale, when the person could not understand what was being offered. Sad that such a once great company is now just another greed ridden corporation.
