Overall, a nice place to work and make good money - Sales Associate Nordstrom Employee Review

Pros

The employee discount of course, although it should probably be 33% to all employees (not just management) the workers all seem down to earth and friendly. Managers seem to be pretty lenient when it comes to switching shifts or getting necessary time off. Opportunity to make some good money is there with commission, but you must work hard (like any other job). If working full time, good benefits program. Pros definitely outweigh the cons. Good overall atmosphere!

Cons

Although the managers are smiling on the sales floor, the stock room tells another story. Management needs to take it down a notch on the ego-meter. All i wanted was a hello, eye contact, maybe any sort of acknowledgment after attempting to greet a regional manager. I received none. Instead? A good look up their nose because their head was held up so high. I understand that they are higher as far as our positions are concerned, but I never thought that managers would translate that as "I'm better than you." Less-knowledgeable and skilled workers are getting promoted due to favoritism as well. Nevertheless, be patient, prove yourself (even if it takes multiple times), and let management know you want to move up. They usually try to promote you as best they can.

Pros

Decent base pay, somewhat autonomous, great tip potential.

Cons

The company has changed for the worse since COVID. When I came back the mood of the entire store had shifted. Gone were the days of comradery, customer focus, and taking pride in a job well done. In its place there is a new culture of cutthroat sales, a severe decline in customer focus, and worst of all a new focus on profit over customer satisfaction. When I was told that the amount the store charged for a shoe shine was not enough to do the best job I could for a customer I knew things had gone downhill for the company. Not to mention I watch a manager prey on a mentally disabled person in order to secure a sale, when the person could not understand what was being offered. Sad that such a once great company is now just another greed ridden corporation.
