Pros

Colleagues seem decent, although don't interact with them much socially as working online. Students are mostly OK too.

Cons

Usually UK HE lack of organisation, but can be worked through (just about) with patience.

Thank you for sharing your experience - it's really appreciated. It's great to hear you've found colleagues and students supportive, even when mainly working in an on-line environment. Everyday interactions make a difference and we hope to see you at our Future Fest event on 8th July or joining on of the Summer Roadshows Janet Smith, CEO. We know how important it is to deliver a great experience for our colleagues and students and our engagement surveys are showing positive progress to the collective energy of everyone at Nottingham College to make it a great place to work and study. We'd encourage you to complete our summer pulse survey adding your voice to that of others - this will help shape how we continue to move forward positively.

Pros

Nice colleagues and some useful development opportunities, easy to get lots of experience at the ‘coal face’ of education

Cons

Crisis of workload and staff mental health, low trust organisation, very cliquey and hierarchical. Lack of recognition of hard work. Lack of a cohesive or clear vision - most strategies are driven by buzzwords, not data or substance. Some departments have a frosty ‘cult’ mentality. Staff turnover in some teams is high. Feels like the college lacks a cohesive vision, jumping from strategy to strategy every couple of years without giving anything time to bed in - many colleagues describe it as like having a new job every academic year.

Thank you for sharing your experience of working at Nottingham College. We're pleased to hear about the pros you mention and we agree, the people are great and part of a truly dedicated team. Making space for development is something we're proud of too - thank you including this in your review. We've placed a real focus on wellbeing in recent years, particularly reducing contact hours for teaching colleagues, our cafe connections programme, annual STAR awards recognising the fantastic contributions of colleagues. Thank you for helping us create our Mission, Vision and Values during the Culture Day in 2022 which led to developing the College Strategic Plan, keeping us on track to be the best college we can be. Thank you for your time with us and we wish you every success in whatever is next for you.
