Pros
Very stable leadership with the Chief Exec in post for 20+ years, with the Exec team bolstered and SMT immensely knowledgeable. Lovely colleagues. Building isn't too big either, which means that staff cross paths frequently. Coffee & Cake on a monthly basis + staff rewarded with Summer and Winter parties. General sense that everyone mucks in. It is a time of change for the organisation but I think it will come out even better for it. Reviews to annual leave entitlements mean that staff get a larger annual leave allowance. Birthday leave is great too. I feel valued in my job, well supported, and trusted to just get on with it. SMT care, show up when you need them, and make me feel trusted. In terms of the work that is made on our stages, it is dynamic, exciting, and often risky! They also take safeguarding really seriously. Compared to my previous roles at different organisations, it is the best arts organisation I have worked for.
Cons
Very little to say here. Every organisation has its quirks. Generally speaking, compared to past organisations I have worked for, Nottingham Playhouse is great. I think, with it being a period of change as they restructure, seeing staff leave posts or change roles can be difficult. The business case does make sense though and I think it is necessary. Sometimes it isn't clear whether there are many internal opportunities for progression. That said, it is clear that the Chief Exec and SMT care about retention of staff and talent.
