Pros
My OSF colleagues are some of the most talented, dedicated, creative, and exceptional people I have ever had the opportunity to meet. They are deeply committed to their work, to furthering the organization's mission, and to supporting OSF's partners. Working alongside them has been an honor and privilege. OSF's resources and connections also open doors and make it possible to pursue work that would be inadvisable or unattainable at other organizations. It affords the opportunity to pursue change on a truly global basis.
Cons
After multiple years and rounds of layoffs by leadership, OSF is now a shadow of its former self. Its global reach, reliability, and ability to support grantees have been diminished. It has adopted an operational model that institutionalizes parachuting in and out of situations, and it has been struggling to pick a path and commit to it. Staff have been devalued and are deeply demoralized, and sudden and unexpected staff cuts are are ongoing, despite OSF's growing endowment. This is in part because the organization is being led by an heir with little real-world experience who is siloed from interacting directly with staff. As a result, OSF is risk of becoming a vanity project that produces photo ops with world leaders rather than pursuing real-world change.
