We need more than this ridiculous pay! - Coordinator Optometric Billing Solutions Employee Review

This company has a heart for welcoming all employees and wants to encourage a great work culture. They put together monthly socials, and other activities throughout the year to stay connected. The owners truly care about their employees. They want everyone to be successful in meeting the standards set by the company and work with employees to try and help them achieve these standards. They are great at finding a balance between work life and home life-reflected in the flexible schedule and remote work options.

Pay and vacation time. While they have made changes recently to improve both of these, I think there is more room to grow here.

Work from home after training, good training, nice coworkers, management tells you what is going on, benefits after 90 days, also none of the "this could have been an e-mail" meetings. Flexible schedule!!! PTO is only 40 hours for the first few years but the hours are so flexible you never have to use it to pick the kiddo up from school or go to a doctor appointment. Cable box out and cable company said they'll be there between 1-3pm on a Tuesday? No need to take off work. You already work from home and you can just clock out for your lunch when they gets there and clock back in after he leaves. Feeling sick? No need to use PTO, there is a sick day benefit. Its unpaid though so if youre sick on a monday or Tuesday work more hours the rest of the week. I work more hours at the beginning of the week for half day fridays so even if i get sick later in the week i can just work Saturday if i need. Only job I have ever had were I can use the PTO for actual time off. 40 hours suddenly seems like a lot when you can actually use it for what its for. Upward mobility seems good and they seem to mainly promote from within. Some people seem to move up into new roles pretty quick so if you're good at the job it seems like upward momentum and pay raises are possible. Also the Christmas party is amazing and they give a Christmas bonus which is really helpful around that time of year

Pay. $15/hr is rough when you have kids. Even in Kansas costs and inflation are going up. Not the type of job where you can take care of younger ones and be good at it either so half your pay or more is going to daycare if you dont have childcare support. Lucky my kids are older and dont need watching or i couldnt do it. So not the best paying job for a single parent or parent of young ones you will struggle a lot without help. But for everything i look up for the job the pay seems right for the low end for industry which makes sense for people new to it so the pay might be correct by industry standards the dollar doesnt do what it used to so be warned you'll need to tighten the purse strings if youre coming from higher pay but with support, two incomes, and the flexible hours it is managable. Its not easy. You have to know all the different insurance rules and they show you everything they can and where to find rules but it isnt black and white. So even though some people seem to move up quick in job title if you arent good at it then it seems like it would be easy to get sort of stuck in the more entry biller role but they work really hard at teaching you and guiding you to get good at everything and even after training you get to have weekly meetings with a person assigned to just answer questions and give guidence to help you on top of your supervisor you meet with once a week for more specific questions for harder things. So even months out of training you have support if you need it and eventually you just have your supervisor type person as needed when you get a handle on things. They kinda flood you with info in training but give you life rafts to make sure you dont drown. Pay is biggest complaint so hopefully i can move up soon.
