Pros

There are some really smart, talented, hardworking people who work there. The employees, who are not in management, are very dedicated to their work. They put in blood, sweat and so so many tears.

Cons

The management and executive teams do not care about the employees - only on the bottom line. When you start, everyone tells you that it’s ok to cry daily your first year, they make it that bad to see if you will actually last. Culture: They constantly put people up against each other, promote ripping people apart in front of others, demoralizing you and working you until you physically are sick. I saw more people have health issues from stress and exhaustion than anywhere else in my career. Benefits: There is no 401K matching and the health insurance is the bare minimum. The “Profit Sharing” is an excuse for the organization to only pay a portion of what they would have to if they offered real benefits to their employees. It is also completely subjective so if you pissed off the wrong people, don’t expect to get much. Executives/Management: There is a reason hiring from the outside can benefit an organization. A large portion of the upper management and executive team have only worked at Opus so they do not have the skills to drive mature, appropriate business actions. They rely heavily on bullying and belittling and are afraid of change. Work/Life Balance: There is none. And if you are a working mom - run. Please don’t put your family through this environment. Mothers who are breastfeeding get to pick between pumping in a bathroom, a dirty electrical closet or their car. If you have young children, they will punish you for not being dedicated when you say being away an extended time is not realistic. If you have a family emergency or health issue- plan on it being held over your head and you possibly getting written up about it when you return. There are some really talented people at this organization that sacrifice their personal lives, their health and emotional well being daily to provide the best for clients. These people are never recognized and there is no such thing as acknowledgement for success. If you make it into the correct clique, you will have the opportunity to belittle new hires and other teammates with the rest of management. If you don’t make it into the clique, keep your head down until you find a new job.

Opus Agency Response

It is always disheartening to see a post from a former employee that was not a good fit for Opus, particularly one that was not aware of our full breadth of benefits (such as our 401K match). Opus has grown exponentially over the past 10 years, and this growth is not possible without a leadership team dedicated to the success of its employees and clients. As for outside leadership, we are thrilled about the new additions on our team through the acquisitions of equally successful companies. In addition to a 401K match, we have rich and comprehensive healthcare benefits that include employer contribution towards employee and dependent care, as well as unique perks such as public transportation stipends. Profit sharing ensures that every single employee, as a team, shares in the success of our hard work together. We do have a private room for nursing mothers, and as a company of many young families, we fully support those needs - including lifestyle changes - such as moving to part-time, or moving to another city to be closer to family. That said, there is always room for improvement in any organization. We appreciate the perspective from this former employee, and we will use this perception to continue to strive to be the best we can for all of our employees.
