Low compensation rates compared to the market

If you want a starter internship as your first entrance in to the PR/marketing world, this may be for you - it just depends on if the resume is worth the cons. PLA can show you how the PR industry works in the Nashville world, while as an intern you will mostly write a monthly article and observe.

When I worked there, I most likely came at the worst time. PLA was going through some severe turnover, had less than 5 clients, and were not doing well. But there is a reason for PLA's constant turnover with people quitting and getting fired. This is because the workplace environment was abysmal at best. I have never seen such low moral in a workplace, and so much fear when it comes to a boss. Though you could see how the CEO might think they are trying to help and mentor you, what came across was cold and irrelevant. Not only is PLA behind on corporate culture, it's behind regarding any new media. PLA still thinks only using traditional media is effective - it is not. The company refuses to move with the times, in fact making it its selling point. Though working here looks good on my resume, I would never do it again. I didn't learn much, I was constantly put down, and was never seen as a valuable member of the team who could bring something to the table. Additionally, pay was really low and the expectation of commitment to the job is very high. This internship maybe will get your foot in the door, but how much is that worth to you? Is working at PLA worth all its trouble? For me, at the end of the day, it wasn't.
