Pros

Interesting work and cutting edge science. Very short timeframe from bench to bedside compared with academia, which is exciting to see the science translate into patients. Strong company focus on having a positive impact on patient lives. Most of the staff are lovely to work with and very competent and productive. People are very willing to help if you need something (training, equipment, knowledge etc) compared with the often competitive/gatekeeping culture of academia. Flexible regarding working from home where the job role permits. Opportunities to learn new skills, techniques, and processes.

Cons

Redundancies and restructuring occurs fairly often with no/minimal warning or communication. This causes people to gossip and feel insecure in their role. Salaries were competitive but have now dropped due to no annual/cost of living pay increase for ~18 months. Workload and expectations can be very high at times, with staff often working at a higher level (in terms of skills and tasks) than their current role.

Pros

Previously had expert CSO for informative drug design.

Cons

Toxic positivity, unrealistic milestones that constantly set the company in a rhythym of racing 3 steps forward and 5 steps back. Chronic burnout experienced by benchside scientists, which contributed to the high turnover and subsequent brain-drain.

Pros

Great Company to work for. If you work hard and show your dedication the company returns it ten fold

Cons

The perks are great—until they create an entitled mindset. Plenty of ex-staff were more than happy to take everything on offer, but the moment they’re let go, it’s suddenly all the company’s fault. No self-awareness, just blame and complaints
