Tough place to work as a person of color - Communications Partnership for Public Service Employee Review

Pros

If you're into political science, this is an interesting job with a proximity to the U.S. government that few other nonprofit jobs in DC have.

Cons

This team specifically is run by a group of white women who are VERY exclusive and unkind to people. If you can't make the happy hour after work, expect to be punished immensely over the next week. In my time, I watched all people of color on the team leave in less than a years time. I would be very careful taking a job on this team if you're from any marginalized community. There also are members of the team who actively bully people and management allows it because they're part of the "in-crowd." It all feels very high school and is highly toxic. Unless you enjoy talking about your sorority days or gossiping about other women in the office, or climbing on top of others in order to succeed, I would say this could be a very uncomfortable experience for you.

Pros

Great colleagues and mission-driven work that really makes a difference. Always things to learn about the work.

Cons

Pace of change moves quickly and priorities often shift without warning. Can be difficult to manage.

Pros

Great boss and good team, with a solid understanding of how to get new teammates integrated and working.

Cons

Wider government policies are hurting them, it's a shame to see since they do such good work.
