NightShift Overburdened, Safety Concerns Dismissed, Layoff After WARN Period - Dock Associate Penske Logistics Employee Review

Pros

- Hourly pay increased upon conversion to full-time ($20/hr as a temp to $23/hr). - Holiday pay provided once onboarded as a full-time employee.

Cons

-The operation relies heavily on temporary labor, which limits stability from the start. -Conversion to full-time did not protect against near-term layoffs; WARN notices were issued and positions were eliminated within months. -Night shift (5:00 PM–1:30 AM or later) routinely extended beyond scheduled hours and carried heavier expectations with less support. -Workloads were disproportionately assigned to night shift, while day shift consistently carried lighter workloads despite comparable pay, creating a clear imbalance in effort versus compensation. -The warehouse had no air conditioning during summer, with temperatures regularly reaching 90–100°F while performing physically demanding work. -Communication was consistently poor, leaving both employees and supervisors without clear or timely information regarding staffing decisions, schedules, or operational changes. -Temps performed the same work as full-time employees but received no holiday pay. -Policies and standards were enforced inconsistently, with stricter enforcement on night shift while similar issues on day shift were tolerated. -I personally reported a workplace safety concern regarding being threatened physically by one of the day shift associates, but it was dismissed without investigation or follow-up by the local HR. -There was a persistent hostile work environment driven by unprofessional management behavior. Multiple concerns were escalated, including to area HR, yet no corrective action was taken, leaving employees without protection or recourse. -During the WARN period, I advanced through an internal transfer process (HR interview and meet-and-greet) at another Penske location, only to have the opportunity withdrawn on October 29, just days before the October 31 layoff.

Pros

Most people are nice and good to work with.

Cons

Senior leadership is underhanded and sneaky. It has not been a good place to work since Jeff Jackson became President.
