Pros

- Amazing work colleagues - The administration is dedicated to continuous learning for themselves as well as staff members - The buildings are well-maintained - The schools have a uniquely diverse community from others in the Indy area - Pay is competitive in-state

Cons

- Required professional development each week, often in the form of presentations without substantial time for personalization and application - At the high school level, block scheduling may force you to have occasional days without any built-in prep time - Student body contains a high percentage of EL learners; not an inherent issue, but made it difficult to differentiate and plan appropriate strategies without having to take a training course outside of normal work hours. - My class sizes averaged around 28 - 30 students each class period.

Pros

- My supervisor was amazing and always stood up for me and the other custodians if we were being treated unfairly by other staff - Everyone gets a small raise every year, regardless of how long you've been employed - Full healthcare benefits - PTO, sick days, and personal days - You basically manage your section of the school however you want to ensure everything gets done in a timely manner - Not difficult work, there's just a lot of it, but if you manage your time you can get it all done efficiently

Cons

- The pay is AWFUL, and that's primarily why I left. Even after getting a raise, I was still making poverty wages ($16/hr compared to the lowest livable wage of $20/hr in Indiana). (source: livingwage . mit . edu) - Admin generally cared more about the teachers' happiness than the support staff's happiness, so I was bullied by a handful of the teachers on multiple occasions with no support from admin. - The company in charge of the AC/heating would turn off the AC during summer break, so we had to do manual labor for a month and a half every year with no air conditioning.
