Pros

Meeting many different kinds of dogs (and cats). Some regulars are very kind. Not an extremely serious/professional environment, can have great banter with customers at times! Can be fun, especially on dog birthdays! Most customers will love to hear about your own pets too, will even ask to see photos. Management will step in to help cover shifts if necessary.

Cons

Hours are unpredictable and inconsistent. You will be scheduled to close one day and then open the next morning. Beware of having to work 6 days in a week multiple weeks in a row, causing periods of times where you will have to work 8 or 9 days in a row. You will be at the resort more than your own home. Pay is inconsistent, as corporate likes to cut hours, and a major portion of paychecks are tips. During slow seasons there are less tips, so less pay. The format of the facility breeds cliques. Where I worked there was a big issue with AM crews (both pro and hosts) believing PM pro crews were lazy and couldn't do anything right..everyone was always badmouthing them. I would not recommend anyone who is neurodivergent or anyone who has health issues to work there. Its a stressful job where mistakes can happen often; then when they inevitably do (2 people checking in 30+ dogs) they are posted in a group chat for everyone to see and it can feel humiliating. The evaluation process for dogs can be lacking at times for small group dogs. We had a few major fights started by dogs who probably should have never passed evaluations in the first place. Dogs will not be banned from group unless its absolutely necessary (such as major injuries caused multiple days in a row), even if it means putting other dogs and employees in danger. Many dogs start off fine but as time goes on they become snappy and reactive. Management can be overbearing about small things, then nonchalant about important issues.
