Pros

-working with the dogs/cats is a great experience -most coworkers are nice -general manager is competent and kind -will give you days off if you need them -when not busy, it’s a laidback job -kennel techs don’t have to mess with customers

Cons

-pay could be better for the work you’ll do -you’ll feel gross clocking out from working with dogs all day -when busy, you’ll be overworked and will feel burnt out -some dogs can be highly aggressive. Most of them time the manager or leads will mess with them, but sometimes they’re allowed into group. When they are, they rarely respond to correction and it’ll be up to you to handle it -expect to be bit at least once -maybe this is location specific, but there is a very noticeable clique of leads and front desk workers who will make you feel unwelcome. This will especially ring true if you’re neurodivergent -be prepared to work in extreme temperatures either way

Pros

Almost everyone there is incredibly friendly and dedicated to their job. They understand that they are caring for creatures that can't speak for themselves and will do their best to make sure all needs are met. Managers know what they are doing and willing to lend a hand when things get busy. Extra pay for working holidays. Overall, it's not necessarily "hard" work. It can get busy and overwhelming at times, but the pay is decent for the level of work you're doing. Employees pride themselves on keeping the location clean and doing what they can to ensure every guest is happy and satisfied.

Cons

It takes a lot for management to conduct disciplinary on both humans and animals. It will take multiple complaints to get action taken other than a "talking to" if there is an issue with another employee. If something goes wrong during daycare, pros will often be the ones to get scolded, sometimes rightfully so. However, say a dog gets kicked out of the yard for inappropriate behavior, the manager will insist on giving the dog another chance even if dog has received multiple behavior "strikes." Criteria for approving a dog for daycare can be very lax at times, but trying to prevent a dog from joining or removing a dog from daycare takes multiple evaluations and "second chances," which will sometimes result in a fight and a Pro getting blamed. Company has a financial incentive to keep dogs daycare approved, especially once they have been approved.
