Pros
Phoenix Stamping was an enjoyable place to that challenged and helped me to grow professionally as a young engineer. The wide range of products produced by Phoenix offered unique design challenges on a regular basis. The small engineering department provided a cooperative environment where you work closely with other engineers and the engineering manager. I left Phoenix in 2014 and was given the opportunity return later as a part time contractor. Being a small company, the engineer works directly with the manufacturing department and also interacts with the engineering departments of the customer if needed. This gives you a better understanding of what you are trying to produce, how it needs to be produced and why. In other words not just making whats on a CAD drawing without knowing its purpose. The job is very hands-on. You will be able to take your design and prototype it yourself. If you like to get your hands dirty you will enjoy this job. The company has a very family feel to it. You interact with all departments on a daily basis and are able to form good working relationships with individuals, rather than contacting the manager of another department prior to working with anyone in that department (this happens at large companies). The company has fun events for its employees and provides incentives and recognition for good performance. Overall Phoenix was a good experience for me and can be fun company to work for a hands-on engineer.
Cons
With any small company opportunities for promotion can be very limited. However Phoenix stamping has grown in size since I have left. For those who are willing to wait longer the opportunities to move up will arise.
