Pros

Decent pay, the opportunity to work from home.

Cons

The executive team cultivates a toxic work environment that consistently undermines individuals with unprofessional and often damaging behavior. There is a glaring lack of accountability among leadership, frequent gaslighting, and little to no clarity on roles and responsibilities. Work-life balance is virtually nonexistent, and employees face undue scrutiny and judgment simply for seeking even a semblance of it.

Pros

Strong leadership that is transparent about company direction and keeps the team informed. Excellent benefits package that reflects how much the company values its employees. The work itself is deeply meaningful, supporting programs that deliver real relief and financial flexibility to vulnerable communities across the country.

Cons

The fast-paced startup environment is exciting, but it may not be the right fit for everyone.

Pros

Some of the ICs I worked with were thoughtful, capable, and genuinely cared about the people the company claims to serve. The health benefits were okay

Cons

A concerning pattern I noticed was that problems were always attributed to people who had already left the company, rather than examined as possible issues with planning or management. You genuinly can see that attitude reflected in the five star reviews. Managers will admit things are chaotic at Promise. That's an excuse for them - they do not offer employees the same "grace". I lost count of the amount of times my manager or a project manager lost their temper at ICs. Promise is not a collaborative or healthy environment to work. All operational roles are a hire-to-fire pipeline. They hire for individual projects that last a few months, then try to wedge the employees into totally different roles or outright fire them. If they're hiring for your role, it's not to grow the team... I saw multiple employees not even make it to their first day because of leadership's ego. The CEO prides herself in not treating engineers specifically with respect. The culture is cutthroat despite how Promise portrays itself.
