Pros
Great place to learn and participate in a global mission. You will be constantly surrounded by some of the smartest people in the industry. Great benefits, positive and supportive work environment. This purpose creates a strong sense of pride among the team. Leadership is approachable, regularly shares updates, and encourages open dialogue. Everyone is empowered to voice ideas, and cross‑functional projects are the norm. Working at Proton feels like being part of a movement that makes a real difference in protecting digital rights worldwide.
Cons
I would not say this is a con, but Proton is a company that does not depend on investors, and their business model is not to sell users' data to 3rd party entities, so they depend on users' subscription fees as the main and only source of income. As such, every employee, regardless of role or seniority, is expected to deliver the highest possible level of performance. Since the company’s success depends entirely on the quality of its products and the trust of its users, it is expected of each employee to treat every task as a critical piece of the larger puzzle. If you find yourself struggling in such an environment, I suggest considering other career options.
