Pros

* Employee benefits, but that's really about it. All Public Bank staff say the bank 'really takes care of their staff', but really, the benefits are just the corporate baseline. The only thing that really stands out is the leave entitlement. But, it's not like corporate culture allows you to use all your leave entitlements. If you take too many leaves, HR would call your boss to enquire what's going on. Work load is also insane (highly dependent on which department you're from), so you can take off days but you will be frowned upon if you do so leaving a lot of work behind. * Friendly colleagues I guess. But, also highly unique to your department & personality type. My department is filled with Chinese older women for example (not really my ideal demographic but what can you do).

Cons

Where do I begin... * The head office building is so old. I think the bank can afford to invest A LOT more into their infrastructure. The toilets are disgusting, the office looks dreary, the computers are old, which brings me to my next point * The internal systems are trash. The HR portal is from 2007. They use LOTUS NOTES and shared network drives ... This company is stuck in 2000. I heard from the IT department that they are severely understaffed + underskilled to implement the digital changes expected of moderately large banks * The company is STINGY. The only reason why their cost-income ratio is so low is because they CUT CORNERS in places not pivotal for bank growth. i.e. they don't have water dispensers, they only very recently decided to give us toilet paper, they bought VERY FEW laptops for staff to WFH (iirc only 500+ in 2022), the chair is SO uncomfortable etc. But they splurge on useless things like, mailing newsletters to staff to show off their new awards (that they probably bought) ??? * The Board is filled with REALLY OLD people who are afraid of making changes * Obligatory poor work life balance. Thankfully they didn't bother to invest in WFH infrastructure, so work ends when I leave the office. * The staff are all in some kind of bubble. No one gets headhunted. Because no one gets access to the outside world. Most people work there their entire lives - which is totally okay. * There's some sort of cultish fanaticism there. They blast the anthem for 30 mins every morning. And everyone loves their leaders. Not really a con, but it's just strange. * They do not give their staff Internet access until you reach a certain level.
