Flat organization is code for "Punchkick is run by a clique and Zak wants it to stay that way" - Anonymous employee Punchkick Interactive Employee Review

Pros

There is this great guy, Ryan, who was a co-founder. Too bad Zak treats him like a child and talks over him during the rare times he appears in huddle.

Cons

The other reviewers here on Glassdoor are all, save one, from the "in-crowd" of Zak's clique. If that confuses you, don't come to Punchkick. You have freedom to do what you need to get your job done -- if you are in the in-crowd clique. You have room to grow and opportunities to build your skills and branch out and learn -- if you are in the in-crowd clique. You have a say in how the office is run -- if you are in the in-crowd clique. You love the supposedly "flat" organizational structure -- if you are in the in-crowd clique. (Hint: Punchkick is not a flat organization. There is a ruling party. You guessed it: it is the in-crowd clique.) If you were the popular kid in school who enjoyed being two-faced and snotty to some people but sweet and kind to others, and miss it nostalgically, PKI is the place for you. You'll do splendidly.

I’m sorry that you feel this way about your time at Punchkick. The challenging thing about a flat organization is that the folks who tend to thrive within it are those who can help surface company and/or personal issues, and work towards improving them together, for the greater good of the team. I come to work every day and do the best I can—flaws and all. And I know I’m not perfect—so I rely on candor and participation from my peers to help evolve and push Punchkick forward. Nearly all of the meetings at Punchkick are open to everyone, including Punchkick Growth Team, the company huddle, and more. And there are certainly those who quickly understand how to navigate and thrive in a flat organization, and for others, it’s not a perfect fit. That’s totally okay. But I wish you would have spoken to me about your concerns. On Glassdoor, you have the benefit of anonymity to say the things that have festered—but in our office you didn’t need it. And your words could have been very powerful and helped me to help you make your Punchkick experience better. If you're open to it, please email me directly and let me take you to lunch to chat through this. There will be no hard feelings and I might be able to give you some closure on things.

Pros

Punchkick is a place full of love. The business was founded on the idea that people should be able to alchemize creativity, critical thinking, and play alongside friends who feel more like family. There is endless opportunity for growth and learning.

Cons

The only cons I can think of aren't specific to Punchkick—they are specific to agency life. Your mission in an agency, in effect, is to build solutions to your customers' problems. Sometimes their problems are meaningful to you, and other times they aren't.

Pros

Since joining Punchkick, I look forward to going to work EVERY day! I've worked at many places in my career. A few have been great, some have been good and many were simply dreadful. Punchkick is right up there with the best of the best. It has a unique culture. Supportive, hard working, smart, entrepreneurial and creative are some of the adjectives that come to mind to describe Punchkick. The culture is key. Zak and Ryan have a vision for Punchkick and it is about much more than making money. This translates into dedicated employees who are proud of the projects they work on. That in turn translates into happy clients!! There is nothing better than a happy client. Punchkickers enjoy being with each other both at the office and outside of the office. Punchkickers work hard and play hard. Punchkick is a real "community" I've never worked for a company that was so transparent and keeps all staff informed of what is going on with the business.

Cons

Not everybody fits into Punchkick. If you like big, hierarchical companies where you do your job in a corner of the business and like not seeing the big picture, Punchkick isn't for you.
