Pros
The facility has attractive grounds and scenic views from classrooms and guest rooms.
Some aspects of the property have been updated cosmetically (paint, carpet, furniture).
I received early recognition (Employee of the Month, multiple internal awards) during my tenure.
Cons
While cosmetic updates are evident, some operational infrastructure (AV/IT systems) felt outdated, and some facility maintenance issues (e.g., water leaks) were ongoing.
Conference Services experienced frequent leadership turnover; I worked under three Directors of CS in two years, and the CS manager role also changed shortly before I left.
Staffing challenges impacted workload. At one point, Conference Services was tasked with additional housekeeping responsibilities with promises of extra hours or temporary help that did not materialize. Instead, part-time hours were reduced and full-time roles were shifted to part-time, making it difficult to manage both existing duties and new assignments.
Performance reviews were delayed and delivered without in-person discussion, which made it harder to understand expectations, growth areas, or development.
Interdepartmental communication could be abrupt. Responsibilities tied to managing incoming work requests did not always allow reasonable response time before follow-up from other teams.
