Pros

The culture at RLI is unreal. Everyone is like a family. Work life balance is prioritized even with a far commute. Wonderful immersion program for new employees. Feels like my forever company even after just 6 months.

Cons

I haven't found any cons yet in my 6 months. If I had to pick a con, I would say that sometimes the commute is hard as it is over an hour, but the flex work plan has been helpful.

Pros

What stands out most is the quality of the people and the culture. Leadership is accessible, colleagues are collaborative and employees are given the authority needed to do their work. The company maintains a disciplined approach to underwriting while still creating opportunities for professional growth and new ideas. The employee-owned culture fosters a long-term perspective and a genuine sense of shared success.

Cons

No workplace is perfect, but I have found the challenges to be typical of a growing and successful organization. Those include balancing priories, managing workload and navigating change in a positive and profitable way.

Pros

RLI has a strong employee-ownership culture and a work environment where people are trusted to take ownership of what they do. The company is relatively flat, which gives employees visibility, access to leadership, and a better understanding of how their work affects the broader organization. Senior management is approachable in a way I have not experienced at other companies, and there is a real effort to listen to employee feedback through direct conversations, exit interviews, and companywide surveys. I also appreciate working with people who care about doing their jobs well and understand that their performance and conduct affect the company as a whole. For employees who are self-starters, think strategically, and take pride in their work, RLI can be a very positive place to build a career.

Cons

Because RLI is relatively flat and gives people a lot of ownership, it may not be the best fit for someone who wants a highly structured environment, frequent direction, or a clearly mapped career path at every step. Advancement and development often require self-advocacy, patience, resourcefulness, and a willingness to look for opportunities rather than waiting for them to be handed to you. That is not necessarily a negative, but it can be an adjustment depending on what type of environment someone is used to.
