Pros

Great people to work with Some people really care

Cons

No training Poorly organised Everything is last minute from pitches to work being delivered No work life balance, some people rarely have a lunch break whilst others can go to the gym and have a lunch hour every day Lots of people been there too long and are complacent Management tell us to 'call out' when things are not working but don't do anything about it The Board will not change, a bunch of mates who re-invent themselves every time they think the current structure doesn't work Not a forward thinking company Women massively under represented at a senior level Culture is very sexist not dissimilar to how agencies of old used to work. I mean there's a hot tub been put on the rooftop of the building, That says it all! Awks with your colleagues. Was this necessary or appropriate? Massively understaffed and some people always booked to do 15 hours of work a day.

This is a really difficult one to reply to. We’re always grateful for feedback, but we’ve worked hard on lots of the negative points you raise. I’m going to respond to a couple of your points – but don’t want to appear too defensive. Which could be quite hard! - Overall, we’ve worked hard to go from 27% female in 2007 to 49% female today, and we have women in several key roles including two of our Group Client Directors, our Head of Marketing, Head of New Business and Head of Talent to name a few. Female representation on the board has only recently come down from 20% to 10%, although we’re better represented in terms of ethnic and LGBT diversity than we’ve ever been before. - - There’s nothing inherently sexist about the hot tub, but recognise it’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea. I feel it’s one of a number of informal perks (the summer party, subsidised yoga, cheese club, Christian’s kitchen and free fruit) that we can opt in and out of – but in light of this feedback we should consider ‘single-gender’ sessions so everyone that chooses to can enjoy this benefit. - - It’s fair we’ve not had as much to spend this year on training as we’d have liked, but we’ve been open about the reasons for this in Company Updates. People in key roles have continued to receive support, but our spend has been a bit more focused than in the past. - - Some periods are busier than others, and it can mean long days sometimes – but we brought in Workflow to help us get the balance right. Workflow is still fairly new to the business, and it’s still something we want to get right. However, I would encourage you to take a lunch hour, and to flag when you’re working too many hours a day: these things are fixable, in my view. I’d genuinely love to hear more from you face to face. In this instance, it sounds like your relationship with RY is broken and might not be fix-able, so you may already be thinking that you’d be happier at another employer. In any case – let’s chat – and thanks for taking the time to share your views. (I’d like the opportunity to talk to you directly, but if you if you’d rather, you can always talk to one of the Talent team in confidence). Thanks Carl x
