Pros

Great benefits. Reasonable pay. Tasty, free lunches once a week. Some very cool personalities in this company.

Cons

Overall, I've never felt more undermined and restricted in a job than I felt here. I'm not going to get too specific here, because I'm not interested in getting penalized for trying to help other people out with my honest opinion. My disclaimer up front is that I can only speak for the department I worked in. Since I am not giving specifics, here's my advice, if you're considering working here: ask the company to connect you with at least 3 people in your department doing your role (or working closely with people in your role). It's important that you get an insider's opinion from people doing your role. Particularly people who share your kind of qualifications, gender, interests, goals, etc. Do favoritisms, biases, or discriminations bother you? Talk to your RB insiders about this. I'm not going to make a general company accusation here – that would be unfair. I had a bad personal experience in my department. Most people here work in an open-office environment. Keep in mind all that that entails and if you can work effectively with that. Don't expect your voiced ideas to necessarily lead to any kind of constructive changes here – even where you think it will really help your department or the company, as a whole. If you just need a paycheck and you can accept the possibility of a dead-end job, then go for it. It won't be dead-end if you consider this job a stepping stone to another job with a different company down the road.

To begin, I appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback. Obviously, our hope at RB is that each individual employee experience is ultimately positive and rewarding, and it sounds like you had some challenges that perhaps we could have addressed differently to have provided you an experience that felt, well, better. We care deeply about our people and are always striving for improvement, and with growth, sometimes comes constructive feedback that we certainly value--yours included. Our commitment to fairness and diversity is a point of pride at RB and our communications, mission, and strategic decisions reflect that commitment. We'll continue to evolve the employee experience to ensure that every member of our team feels supported by his or her peers, aligned with the mission to help those struggling with addiction, and valued overall. Pros

None. Absolute zero. One of the worst professional experiences I've ever had in a 20-year media career.

Cons

I was recruited to be a healthcare writer for them (that is my background). They were interested in my robust list of healthcare/psychology/recovery professionals in my extensive source network. After courting/recruiting me to be a writer for them heavily, I started the job and learned that they actually didn't want me to be a writer at all, but rather a sweatshop manager. 120,000+ words per month, every month, to be done by the healthcare professionals I knew for little to no compensation. (Which is not how healthcare media works at all). When I told them that this plan was totally unworkable and that nobody in my source network would cooperate, they fired me (or rather, rescinded the job offer, since I was there less than a week). Then I had trouble getting paid for the time I did put in. Nightmare operation run by unethical liars. Most of their "content" was plagiarized and/or outright stolen from other companies and/or government entities. Trying to be a link farm with other peoples' content without their permission (e.g., copyright infringement) is no way to run a media/lead-generation business. Conference calls (the few I was on) were completely unprofessional. Dogs barking in the background, people swearing and even sounding drunk. Fratboy culture that placed no value on ethics or actual creative work. As long as pages went up, it didn't matter if you were stealing the content or exploiting people Third-World style to get it. Absolutely, positively horrific.

Recovery Brands is firmly committed to expanding online resources for individuals and families struggling with addiction, while providing access to the most accurate, relevant information needed to make informed treatment decisions. And we recognize that in order to be the best, most comprehensive resource, it starts with our team, whose individual and collective efforts have resulted in some pretty cool achievements, like helping the company reach #213 on the recently-released Inc. 5000 list, but most importantly, continue to change and save lives across the country. The quality of life of those working so hard in pursuit of our mission, as well as of their families', is a top priority and area of investment for us, and as evidenced by our talented, integrity-driven team, our positive and innovative culture, and the progress we've made in support of families and individuals struggling with addiction, we're extremely proud. We love great ideas and value accurate insight and feedback and encourage anyone interested in learning more about us, our mission, our people and our game-changing products to visit our company website.
