Pros

Pizza and beers on a Friday from 5.30 - 6pm

Cons

Directors There are directors who advocated publicly shaming, swearing and disrespecting direct reports if they committed an error. This would also extend to errors committed under the instruction of senior consultants or actions taken when no guidance was provided. This wasn’t a one off or a bad week, this was consistent and accepted by the company as everyone looks on whilst this common practise and humilitation occurs. Leadership As a junior consultant I didn’t object to the daily 12 hour days as I knew this was both a part of recruitment and being new. However, a lot of the work given was last minute as jobs are originally designated to a more senior colleague to give them a chance to earn the commission first. Once they have spent an afternoon resourcing it is passed on. Training This was my first role out of university and so I had no idea how to recruit. Day 1 on the job I was given a technical IT job spec, access to jobsite and monster and told I needed 3 CV’s by the end of the day. Naturally I had multiple questions which were ignored as they had a lot on (despite the Directors in the company choosing the corner seats of the office to avoid there screens being looked at, I could still clearly see he was looking for a new Range Rover). Integrity (with colleagues and clients) There was a process in place where if you referred a contractor to a specific umbrella company you would get paid an additional £40 per month. The Directors regularly claimed this commission for themselves despite the recommendation being made by someone else on the team. There was the unspoken rule that if you were on annual leave or sick, senior consultants could log into your computer and go through your emails to see if they could poach any client contacts. I personally resourced 2 successful candidates but the senior consultant refused to give me the commission (5%) and kept it for himself, which the Director found amusing. Clients - they were lied to on a daily basis. They were informed of work that was never done, fees were justified by explaining processes that didn’t exist. Staff turnover The team I joined was made up of 9 consultants, 2 of them are still there. I have worked in 2 companies post Redrock and they have not come close to the staff turnover Redrock has.

Thanks for your comments and whilst we can’t always get it right there are many points that I must address. In the Pros section of your review you write that we have pizza and beer from 5.30. We actually all stop at 4.15pm for pizza and beer and everyone is out the door by 4.30 on Fridays. But we are very glad you think it’s a pro even with if yo thought it was later than it was! In terms of cons, there are some things which you report which I do not recognise as part of the RedRock culture, at all. Our Directors are all very hands on, and enjoy daily interaction with our employees at all levels. We believe this is part of what makes RedRock so good. There are very few companies where as a new starter you have 1 on 1 training with Directors who are experts in the field. In fact, you will see from many of our other reviews that this is one of the things that RedRockers love about us! We’re sorry if you experienced, what you call “public shaming”, that’s certainly not something we advocate at RedRock and not something I recognise as being part of what we do. You mention that you were given work with a very quick turnaround, we appreciate this can be extremely stressful, but unfortunately, we are a business which thrives on a fast pace. Our Consultants, who I assume is who you are referring to as our “more senior colleagues”, have every right to try to work the roles they chose and to decide how they work with Junior Resourcers. We know this can be frustrating, which is why we have designed our training programme to encourage and develop our Resourcers into Consultants to give them the chance to operate their desk as they chose. We completely understand that the fast paced and competitive nature of the business isn’t for everyone and to that end, we’ve improved our recruitment process by adding in a psychometric game so that we now only employ people who are up for the challenge – and it’s working! More on this here… https://www.redrockconsulting.co.uk/knowledge/gaming-recruitment-personalities Your feedback on our training is spot on and we can acknowledge that when you joined us our training wasn’t up to scratch. This is why we have completely redesigned our training programme so that it is now structured and specifically designed to take people with no sector expertise to, what we believe to be, some of the best consultants in the UK. We accept that had this training been in place during your short tenure with us then your probation period may not have needed to be extended and there would have been no tears and you would still be with us. In a recent staff survey, which paced us as 11th Best Small company to work for in the UK (and the best Recruitment company in the South West – no biggie!) our employees “strongly agreed” that our training programme gave them all the knowledge and tools they needed. If you want to read more about our training programme have a look at this … https://www.redrockconsulting.co.uk/knowledge/joining-redrock-pathway. Our staff turnover is actually well below the industry average. Our recent listing in the Sunday Times Best Companies awards independently acknowledges this. I could go on but in summary, criticism is always welcome and it has without doubt influenced the changes we have implemented in recent years but spurious comments of this kind are unfair, incorrect in all but one aspect and simply a free shot. If you would like to specifically address and of the issues you have raised, then I welcome you to email me at mary.hilitch@redrockconsulting.co.uk to discuss further.
