Pros

Steady Paycheck Extremely politically correct environment, if you consider that a “Pro”. Headquarters is in San Francisco. Need we say more?

Cons

Below market pay. I would estimate about 30% below market. I think they are lowballing. Always counteroffer. Know your worth. If they really want you, they will negotiate. Worked for me. If not, they probably don’t care or you might have a weak hiring manager. Not good in either case. No upward mobility. Many mid level people leave for better paying jobs and promotions at true top tier competitors. Open office layout. Like working in a fishbowl. Insist on seeing your eventual workspace during any interview. Poor work/life balance. Influential members of Senior Management are primarily males with stay at home wives. I recall HR to be run by aging, seemingly childless, white women. Are these people even remotely in touch with their younger diverse workforce? No job security. Contractors, especially, are treated like totally disposable commodities. So-So safety. I recall every few years they seem to have a bad injury. Diversity is a struggle. Muslims should consider Roche is headquartered in Switzerland. Isn’t Switzerland the country that has banned the construction of Minarets? How high will you really rise in such a corporate culture? Troublesome manufacturing processes. In my opinion, they barely run. As a manufacturing person, you will have constant major headaches just trying to do your job. Aging product base. The actual machines are made in Switzerland. Branchburg merely makes the reagents by them that are consumed to make a diagnosis. The “flagship” machines are about a decade old…. The LIAT machines are too compact and almost impossible to assemble. And this, by the culture (Swiss), that make Swiss watches! What does that tell you? Toxic work culture. Inadequate and poor planning leads to a lot of crises and shifting priorities. Hurry up and then wait. Oops! Wait! You busted your butt on the wrong thing! Now, work even harder on our new crisis! You may spin your wheels a lot, instead of growing your skills. Directionless future for Branchburg. They bet big on Covid “Point of Care” PCR testing (i.e. at Doctors offices, clinics, etc.). They lost the market to at home antigen tests you can buy at the supermarket. Now what? Directionless parent company strategy. “Personalized Medicine” was a failure. AI killed that….. They have not “innovated” their way out of a huge drug patent cliff. Lost tens of billions in sales. So what do they do? Promoted that guy to Chairman of the Board! Latest “strategy” is to enter the weight loss market. Great idea! Let’s be third to market! What happened to “Doing Now What Patients Need Next” ? Doing now what competitors have already done? LMAO. That slogan did not age well! What happened to the focus on cancer research that made them a fortune when they bought out Genentech? Don’t expect any financial support for research benefiting Branchburg.

Pros

Excellent Employee Benefits and beautiful facilities

Cons

As a seasoned quality professional I could not recommend enough that you stay far away from this company. The entire Global Quality program is run on gaslighting. Procedures are vague and cryptic and the management solution is always to just copy and paste from another site. You will be told to "speak up" and its an open and collaborative environment, but that could not be further from the truth. Roche is a toxic environment that is run by cliques that pick and choose who gets to succeed. If you dare to speak up you're targeted and ostracized. If you want to succeed there you just need to nod head in agreement and try to follow the cryptic task that is gonna set you up for failure anyway. Success is completely contingent on how well you gossip and politic. The "Branchberg Mafia" is run on emotions and direction will change day to day depending on how leadership feels that day. Again I recommend looking somewhere else if you're looking to make an impact and enjoy a challenge. If you enjoy being a sheep or like weak and emotional management. This is the place for you.
