Pros

Roomi is a Series A company and having worked for a number of startups at multiple stages, I can say this: I know mistakes were made and people were unhappy. Roomi is a young company with young leaders; mistakes are inevitable. However, it seems Roomi is learning and growing from the lessons taught by those same mistakes. There are not many Series A companies out there that have Finance, HR, and Operations leadership - people with actual experience, not bloated tech titles that everyone else has. It shows me that they want to scale but do so in the right way, with the right people, and the right processes in place. I think it's amazing that they have proper performance management software, solid PTO, WFH Wednesdays, fully paid for benefits, a 401(k) account (no matching contributions though), etc. I've worked for companies who have been around for 10+ years that didn't offer some of these benefits. I know there's still a lot of progress to be made but I think Roomi is putting the right people in place to do that.

Cons

Everything takes time. With startups, a lot of things get stuck in "analysis paralysis" and things take longer than it should. I think Roomi's improving on this though. Internal communications need to be improved; they have 6 global offices and various remote employees and that can cause a bottleneck in communication. There needs to be more communication from leadership to the team.

Pros

Reading all of these negative reviews about Roomi and the CEO is quite disheartening as a current employee because I absolutely love working for the company. Recently I too noticed shifts in the company as far as team members but coming from a start-up background myself this is nothing new and to be expected. Things are always changing in startups and things move at a fast past which is what honestly makes it exciting for me! Although for some people this may be too much you should kind of know what to expect when applying to work for a startup you can’t slack up for too long. I personally like Ajay the CEO a lot and unlike other CEOs I’ve worked with in the past he’s really taken time to talk to me, help and encourage me even in times I could see he’s super stressed or busy. I mean I can only imagine the stress he must go through on a daily running a company this big at his age while also trying to push people and maintain high spirits at all times. The transparency and honesty in the company is something I really appreciate. In other companies I worked for they never spoke about raising capital nor things like that it was always really hidden so I appreciate the fact they are open about these things. As a person who comes from an immigrant background I have a lot of respect for anyone who can work as hard as Ajay has to get Roomi to where it has providing job opportunities for people like me! I can also respect the fact that he gives people chances. So it’s unfortunate that these few people have written these terrible things and seem to take things so personally. They don’t speak for me or most people I know in the company! I don’t believe any company or leader is perfect. We all have room to grown and improve. But believe the future for Roomi is bright and I hope I’m here for many more years to come!

Cons

The hours can be pretty long and can come with a lot of stress as you’re expected to meet tight deadlines at times. So overall the work-life balance can be a lot but I’ve heard the management speak about trying to improved this recently.

Pros

* Operates in an exciting space, helping people find roommates. * Rapidly seeing your work impact people's lives for the better. * Visibility into company metrics, progress, and accessibility to the data you need on all levels to do your job while knowing how the company is performing. * Laid back culture, including excellent interaction with peers and management. * We're not charged with unneeded process, tasks, or procedures that most companies have in place. * A mandate to do your job and get access to the tools required. * Roles are flexible; if you're so inclined, you can grow yourself, skills, and career by becoming "the person" on a subject area. * Lots of runway in the sector for growth.

Cons

* Needs a 401k match. * It's a startup which can be great for some people like me. Determine if a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment is for you.
