Pros
Generally left alone to get your job done but it also depends on manager. Own office. I was very lucky to get a great manager who listened to me and actually helped me learn new things.
Cons
Terrible health insurance and benefits. Higher ups enjoy the leisurely schedule of whatever they want while all others are on a short leash. Not much incentive to do a better job or advance unless you are a scientist.
