Pros
- Good healthcare plan (that covers mental health counselling, just putting that out there) - Lovely bright offices in the centre of Copenhagen - Tasty lunch buffet catered daily, including veggie options - Fun social events organised by employees - The industry is fast moving and bursting with opportunities - Get to work with quality equipment and software - Majority of colleagues are awesome, funny, intelligent and knowledgeable. A pleasure to work with.
Cons
- You'll likely need that healthcare plan - Have that tasty lunch at your desk or during a meeting in order to meet demands. There doesn't seem to be much respect for break time. - Lack of the most basic work structure. Internal communication is a disaster. Impossible to get anything done before last minute, as every decision needs to bypass several people who are not qualified to give you an answer. The common excuse for this is "we're still a startup working to figure out our structure". The company is 7 years old and employ over 100 people. Agree or disagree, decide for yourself. - Lack of ownership in projects. Management is not listening to the input of their own experts and will call decisions that go directly against what is advised. Then go "whoopsie, learning experience!" when the pudding hits the fan and the employees have to sweat for a week to clean it up. - I didn't experience any crunch in the typical sense (maybe because there's been no new titles in 4 years?) but my team was expected to stay late in the evening and be available to the head of dept. around the clock - also on weekends, vacations and sick days. - No serious open acknowledgement of internal issues. Excuses upon excuses from management. The "This Is Fine" meme comes to mind. - Obsession with positive brand perception is making it difficult for anything which is not related to that to be taken seriously when it comes to the distribution of resources. - No career advancement opportunities. I applied for training needed to fulfil my growing responsibilities, but wasn't granted any. When I'd been with SYBO for 2.5 years a senior role in my field opened up, but I was not asked if I was interested. Instead I was asked to write the job ad, screen candidates and handle the interviews on top of doing my regular job. I was completely unqualified for this, since I have zero HR experience. Maybe that's their idea of career advancement? Honestly I could go on, but I think you get the point. I strongly encourage you to consider carefully before applying if you have any history with stress, depression and/or anxiety.
