Pros

You will learn a lot about safety aspects for OSHA, chemical hygiene, biosafety and local regulations. These skills are valuable not only in this position but as well as for the rest of your career. Face time with clients can also be pleasant and the ability to move around and travel I found nice.

Cons

Unfortunately, the negative reviews are all very true. When you interview, just ask what the average retention rate is. LinkedIn as I am writing this says about 1.3 years. The reason is the position will burn you out in about 1.5 years. You start slow with training, shadowing others, but you are quickly thrown into clients to get billable hours. Management will continually add to your clients, shadowing and training duties, increasing workload. You are often overloaded past 40 hours, pressured to take on additional projects as demand increases. They’ll say that they’ll take off clients to make room for new projects, but they never say when. It could be months of you working over 40 hours, to which as a salaried individual you receive zero compensation for. You might get a bonus gift card, but it pales to the revenue the company receives versus what you are valued for your time. They do in fact have an open door policy as they mention in many of their responses, but if any action comes out of those meetings, it's rarely in your favor. Once you are overloaded, working 45-50+ hours, very rarely do you get out of that cycle in order to not "compromise" client relationships. It's a clients come first mentality, where you’re expected to just push through and work unpaid overtime consistently. It’s exhausting thus the short retention rate overall. So, plan on switching jobs in about 2 years and read the non-compete very carefully before you sign.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us and are disappointed to hear that your complete employee experience did not meet the high standard for job satisfaction that we have set. You are correct that we have an open-door policy where our Management Team works to listen with the intent to understand in order to implement changes continually improving our work/life balance. Our policy is meant to provide an opportunity for any employee to offer feedback, at any time. When a request for change cannot be met, regardless of the reason, we do our best to communicate on the why, in an effort to provide continual transparency. We were not unaffected by the events of a global pandemic these past two years and have been working tirelessly to hire additional Consultants to keep up with our continually expanding client demands, better distributing our work amongst our staff. Our Client Management team works diligently to balance consultant schedules with routine supervisor support, ensuring that each team members schedule is manageable. We thank you for your feedback and, rest assured, the team will continue to listen and implement change in our efforts for continual improvement.

Pros

Some independence, lots of variety, usually no enormous pressure to work outside of normal hours. Good resources to support training, Generally good support structure for EHS content; You will easily learn if you put forth effort. Most supervisors and clients are understanding, normal human beings.

Cons

Non-compete clause means that if you're serious about EHS you may be locked out of the industry for a year after this job. Not the most outlets for creativity Initially you are going to be saying 'I'll get back to you about that' alot. Very limited time with coworkers- more time with client's employees for likely two to eight days each month at most clients (also possibly a pro) Justifying every 15 minutes on a timesheet can be nerve racking. Work culture/ stress (1 supervisor; ocassionally 1 client) can be crazy.

Thank you for your feedback and for your time at Safety Partners. We appreciate the contributions you made during your tenure with us. We're pleased to hear that you experienced a positive work-life balance and enjoyed working alongside your colleagues. We take pride in the training and development opportunities we provide our consultants, so it's encouraging to know that you felt supported and had access to the resources needed to learn and grow in your role. Consulting is a unique profession and professional service. As you mention, it that requires developing skills such as managing multiple clients and working independently at client sites, along with business processes such as completing timesheets and employment terms that are standard practice for professional service firms. Our team leaders and management team are available to provide guidance in these areas, and we offer resources designed to support consultants as they build these skills. Because our consultants are often dispersed across various client locations, we also place a strong emphasis on employee recognition and creating opportunities for connection through company events and team gatherings.
