Incompetent managers are common. They enjoy regular promotions and substantial bonuses.
Dead-end jobs for people in data and engineering. The highest they might get over the years is a Principal Something, e.g. Principal Data Engineer or Principal Data Scientist, which is just another kind of Individual Contributor. Promotions from that to any roles in Management never happened.
